My Request Was Rejected — Now What?
When your request is rejected, you'll receive a notification. Don't worry — rejection doesn't mean permanent denial. It usually just means something needs to be revised or supplemented.
Find out why
- Go to "My Requests" and find the rejected request
- Check the review history — the rejection step will show comments from the reviewer
- Understand what needs to be changed based on the comments
Two types of rejection
Type 1: Returned for revision (Awaiting Revision)
The workflow was configured with a "Return to Submitter" path, meaning the reviewer wants you to fix something and resubmit.
Steps:
- Open the request detail
- Revise the form based on the review comments
- Resubmit — the workflow restarts from the node the reviewer chose to return to
The reviewer chooses where to return
When rejecting, the reviewer can select which previously approved node to return to — not necessarily the very first step. Check the timeline to see exactly where the workflow restarted.
Type 2: Workflow ended
The workflow ended directly with "Rejected" — no further action is required from you. This usually means the request cannot proceed.
If you have questions, contact the reviewer who rejected it directly.
Common rejection reasons
- Incomplete information: Missing required fields or attachments
- Incorrect amounts/quantities: Over budget or filled in incorrectly
- Policy violation: Doesn't meet company policy or eligibility requirements
- Needs more detail: Reviewer needs additional information to make a decision
